Paris - Jim Morrison's grave

As part of my visit to Paris in April '93, I made the pilgrimage to Jim Morrison's grave in the Pere Lachaise Cemetry.

 

With no real idea of where Jim's grave is in this vast cemetry, I strolled along the various lanes of this impressive graveyard, the serenity hardly broken by the groups of people streaming towards or away from one destination. Most visitors to Pere Lachaise seemed to have a singular purpose .. to visit Jim's grave.

 


Many of the gravestones were defaced with pointers and other graffiti to direct any new visitors ..


.. some helpful ..


.. others just plainly disturbed.

 

 


Following all the graffiti pointers and the groups of people, I finally came to Jim Morrison's grave where a sombre group of fans where grouped around the site. The atmosphere was quietly respectful, but there were two permanent guards on duty to ensure the peace and keep the visitors under check. The gravestone itself is plain and the grave is half-hidden between other huge gravestones.
